Diversification Beyond Traditional Markets

Interior detail of a quiet private office
Listed equities and bonds remain the core of most private wealth. They should. They are liquid, transparent and, when selected with discipline, an efficient way to own the productive economy. They are not, however, the whole universe.
Private equity, private credit, infrastructure and real estate can offer different return paths and different sensitivities to the economic cycle. The word ‘can’ is important. Access without underwriting is not diversification. It is a collection of commitments.
Aurelis Capital approaches private markets as a complement, never as a fashion. Position sizes are modest relative to the whole. Liquidity is mapped against the client’s real obligations. Fees, governance and the quality of the underlying managers are examined with the same seriousness we apply to a public equity holding.
Used this way, alternatives can reduce the portfolio’s dependence on a single market regime. Used carelessly, they add complexity without adding resilience. We prefer the former.
